Born in Romania, Floarea Virban studied Letters (BA, 1986) and Philosophy (BA, 1995; MA, 1996) at Bucharest. She was awarded a first Ph.D. in Human Sciences – Philology (2003, University of Bucharest) and a second one in History and Civilisation (2007, European University Institute, EUI, in Florence). She started her Academic career in 1991, at the Bucharest Institute of Linguistics (Romanian Academy) and continued it at the EUI in Florence, which she joined in 2000. Since 2002, she has been collaborating with the CSSEO. Since 2006, she has been teaching for American Universities in Italy. She published many articles and studies and had broad interests in trans-disciplinary research and teaching in human sciences.
